Mirror Mirror In The Kiln…
Mary Rose’s latest Rose Encrusted Mirror…. We made and showed a few large mirrors with ceramic flowers overlaid onto their wooden frames last year. This year a customer who has been appreciating Mary Rose’s work for many years contacted us to say that her 1990s mirror was damaged and could she have another one. Her wish was our command! This piece is 100% clay, the cleverly shaped base was rolled out of clay and onto that Mary Rose built the roses and beautiful candle sconces. This “all clay” process of course limits the size…the total dimensions are a fraction under 24 inches each way. The whole process of building layers of clay is a challenge because as each successive layer dries the chance of cracking increases. But on this occasion the Clay Gods were smiling and this miraculous piece is perfect….the old 1990s version is the inset picture
